TYPE O NEGATIVE Team Up With DUST TO DUST To Form Two Side Projects
June 20, 2003In a recent RockRage interview with DUST TO DUST frontman Rob Traynor, he explained how he hooked up with fellow Brooklynites TYPE O NEGATIVE to form an as-yet-unnamed side project.
"I was approached by [drummer] Johnny [Kelly] and [guitarist] Kenny [Hickey] from TYPE O NEGATIVE and they had told me that they were looking to do something and Kenny had written a couple of songs and he wanted me to lay down bass on it," Rob said. "So I got together with them and I laid down bass and I heard the music and I loved what Kenny was doing and we had talked about getting together in the studio and just jamming and we got together and we jammed and things really started to take off. I mean we really started to write well together. Things really started working out, we started writing a lot of music and that's how the side project came about.?
In the same interview, Rob revealed that DUST TO DUST drummer Steve Tobin has been working with members of TYPE O NEGATIVE on a side project of his own. "The funny thing is, Steve, my drummer, . . .is actually working on a side project with Pete [Steele, frontman for TYPE O NEGATIVE]," he said. "So he's going to be playing drums with Pete. Pete's putting together something on the side. So you've got three-quarters of DUST TO DUST playing with members of TYPE O NEGATIVE."
Kenny Hickey has also contributed guitar solos to several songs on DUST TO DUST's recently released sophomore effort, "Sick", which is available through Traynor's own Psyclone Records.
